In 2008, Andrews was secretly recorded through a hole at the Nashville Marriott near Vanderbilt University and again at the Radisson Airport Hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin by Michael David Barrett, a former Chicago-area insurance executive. One of those videos, in which she was viewed as unclothed in her hotel room, was published online on July 16, 2009. It immediately went viral, leading to Barrett’s arrest by the FBI on October 2. He was declared guilty of the domestic stalking charges on December 15.

The officials got another video in Barrett’s hard drive, which was never made public. On March 15, 2010, US District Judge Manuel Real sentenced Barrett to 30 months of arrest as well as ordered him to have supervised punishment for three years after release, pay US$5,000 in fines, and US$7,366 in restitution.

In October 2015, Andrews registered a civil lawsuit against Barrett and Nashville Marriott for $75 million. The case started in late February 2016, and ended on March 7, with the jury granting her $55 million in damages.
