Elvis Presley is an iconic figure in American rock ‘n’ roll culture and beyond, inspiring generations of musicians.
Although he was often thought to be 6 feet tall, the reports about his exact height vary greatly and some suggest that he was actually closer to 5 ’11”.
Towards the end of his life, Elvis had gained substantial weight, from his early days when he weighed roughly 158 kg.
His lasting legacy goes beyond just music though; Elvis also got married in 1967 to one of his close friends Priscilla after a much-discussed courtship that ended with the couple’s first child, Lisa Marie, born in 1968.
Unfortunately, the happy period ended quickly. Early in the 1970s, Presley’s marriage was disintegrating, and in 1973, the couple got a divorce.
Elvis and Priscilla Presley’s only daughter was announced dead by her mother on Thursday, January 12, 2023.
Who was Elvis Presley?
Elvis Aron Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, on January 8, 1935. Presley was meant to be a twin, but Jesse Garon died during delivery.
Presley rose from highly modest beginnings to become one of the most well-known figures in rock ‘n’ roll.
He was raised to have great faith in God and was very dedicated to his parents, especially his mother, Gladys.
When Presley turned 11 years old, his mother gave him his first guitar. A few years later, he won a talent competition at Memphis’ Humes High School, when he first experienced musical success.
He held several jobs after receiving his diploma in 1953 while following his artistic aspirations.
That same year, he recorded his first demo in what would later be known as Sun Studio. Soon after, Presley started recording and touring to land his big break. Presley’s debut single, “That’s All Right,” came out in 1954.
In Indianapolis, Indiana, in June 1977, he took the stage for his final performance.
Presley, who was 42 years old, passed away from heart failure on the morning of August 16, 1977.
Later, it was determined that his use of prescription drugs contributed to his demise. On the grounds of Graceland, close to the graves of his mother Gladys, father Vernon, and grandmother Minnie Mae Hood Presley, Presley was laid to rest.
Presley has remained one of the most well-known musical icons ever since his passing.
